2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Follows Mixed Response
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a distinct vision.
The president expressed that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to address player expectations.
Trend of Strategic Hires
The news follows a similar move taken by the publisher in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the complete content from the president's communication:
Dear Team—
I know you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It uncovered the necessity for a more distinct vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the feedback to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our fans.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To boost the remarkable progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of the team. After several months of conversations, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter field is extensive, having dedicated the recent years creating and leading some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming Ben soon. We are all excited to keep seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.
David
