The buzz about The Game Awards was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
